Charity organisation The Samaritans is encouraging internet users to donate gift-filled shoeboxes this Christmas to disadvantaged children across the world, via a personalised website.
Over the past 23 years, through Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered 100 million gift-filled shoeboxes in over 100 countries.
Operation Christmas Child is a global children’s project of Samaritan’s Purse that uses simple gift-filled shoe boxes containing school supplies, toys, necessity items and notes of encouragement to let hurting children know they are not forgotten.
In 2012, Operation Christmas Child reached a significant milestone— delivering the 100 millionth gift-filled shoebox since the project began in Wrexham, in 1990.
Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts are collected in the UK, United States, Canada, Australia, Austria, Finland, Germany, New Zealand and Spain.
Shoebox World is designed to be a fun and interactive programme to create a shoebox online. People can choose from a selection of toys, education supplies, hygiene accessories and other items.
Samaritan’s Purse UK Executive Director Simon Barrington said: “We want to tell children receiving these shoeboxes that, whatever their circumstances, people in the UK do care about them and are thinking about them this Christmas.”
