The UK self-employment workforce is growing every day, made up of some 4.8 million Brits.
The site was developed by Paul Hill, the founder of a London-based digital marketing firm, who experienced first-hand the demotivating isolation of trying to start-up, promote and grow a business alone.
So the idea was born to build an online community where the UK self-employed could freely promote their businesses and skills, connect with each other to grow their businesses, offer advice and support, and build social networks locally and nationally.
Once registered on the site, the members’ business type and description, social interests and postcode location enable them to be mapped into the NoWorkMates.com searchable database.
This means their business and skills can be found by other members, whilst enabling them to search for and connect with other members who have the skills they need to grow their business.
Members also have access to two forums; the business connect forum enables members to post for skill swops or business opportunities, obtain business advice or recommendations, and the social connect forum where members can chat to each other and suggest social meet-ups.
“The concept of NoWorkMates.com came from shared personal and professional experiences. I established SRA almost a decade ago and, like many others who leave the corporate world, suffered from the initial isolation and the struggle to find new business opportunities and project partners. So we built NWM to help the self-employed connect locally and nationally for business growth and social interaction” said Paul Hill, Managing Partner, SRA
