Amazon is considering a takeover bid for online fashion retailer Asos, according to a news report. The Daily Telegraph reports that Amazon examined Asos’ books earlier this year and the US retailer’s founder Jeff Bezos interest was heightened when he met Asos boss Nick Robertson.

Earlier this month Asos hired former Amazon UK managing director Brian McBride as its chairman.
It is thought the online fashion retailer has caught Amazon’s eye because of its track record of working with high end brands which the US giant has difficulty attracting to its site.
News of the potential takeover interest comes as Asos is expected to unveil a 40 per cent profits rise on Thursday.
UK sales jumped 15 per cent in the quarter to 31 August. Analysts expect pre-tax profits for the year to August to come in around £44 million, up about 40 per cent.
Asos is expected to reveal plans for its Chinese expansion on Thursday. It is understood the online retailer has been beta-testing a site in the region.
