Global ecommerce trends: Chinese are biggest online shoppers

Oct 25, 2017 | E-commerce and E-retailing

Chinese digital consumers are the most avid online shoppers, with 83% reporting purchasing a product online in the past month, according to new research.

The data, from Global Web Index, indicates that China leads the way across all age, gender and income breaks.

The opportunities for digital commerce in APAC in general are very evident, with 6 of the top 10 global markets coming from the region.

In part, this is a result of the success of home-grown online merchants in revolutionizing retail, such as Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba.

Nevertheless, certain European markets also show strongly here too, with the UK, Germany and Poland featuring within the top 10 (achieving figures of 75% or more).
