According to research by Mintel, Brits spend more on Mother’s Day than Father’s Day – an estimated £510 million was spent in the UK on Mother’s Day in 2015 compared to £360 million on Father’s Day, with less than half (47 percent) of Brits spending money on their dads* But what retailers are getting it right on Mother’s Day and what products and gift ideas are they offering?

HotUKDeals, the UK’s leading deal-sharing community, has analysed deals posted for this occasion by its members, over the last two years, to determine which retailers have offered the most popular deals based on deal heat and the number of visits to ecommerce platforms in the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day**.
Retailers selling emotional gifts:
Retailers selling gifts that share memories are popular during Mother’s Day with the rise of digital prints being used on items such as mugs, t-shirts, books and more attracting customers. In 2015, members of HotUKDeals rated an offer by Snapfish as the hottest for Mother’s Day with a deal heat of over 2400º. The company were offering a free photo mug worth £7.99 with customers only paying £1.99 postage and packaging. This deal also generated the highest number of visits to a retailer out of all the Mother’s Day deals posted in 2015, with 33% of visits.
In 2016, members of HotUKDeals spotted that Snapfish had another photo mug offer with the company selling them for £2.99 with a code. This deal was voted as 345º by the community.
Personalised cards are also popular during Mother’s Day. In 2015, Truprint had a deal for a personalised 7 x 5 Mother’s Day card for just 99p delivered, cheaper than a lot of standard cards in a high-street shop. This deal was voted 307º hot.
Retailers selling a variety of products:
According to consumers who use HotUKDeals, department stores, supermarkets and other retailers who offer a variety of products offer some of the best deals during Mother’s Day with gift ideas that are value for money.
In 2015, Lidl had two ‘hot’ deals for Mother’s Day, as voted by the members of HotUKDeals, including a bunch of sweetheart Roses for £3.00 voted at 349º. Members also voted the supermarket’s Mother’s Day half price weekend offers that included orange juice and croissants as 344º hot. Last year, the supermarket’s prosecco for £4.99 was also voted as one of the hottest deals for Mother’s Day with deal heat of 508º.
In 2016, deals offered by Argos proved popular with consumers for Mother’s Day including an offer for Thorntons Premium Collection chocolates being voted as the hottest Mother’s Day deal for 2016 by the members of HotUKDeals. At the end of February, the retailer was offering the popular chocolates for £2.00 instead of £6.99 and the deal was voted 1502º hot. This deal also generated the highest number of visits to a retailer out of the all Mother’s Day deals posted in 2016 (11%).
In 2016, Marks and Spencer offered a free Mother’s Day Beauty Box worth £90 when customers spent £25 on beauty products with this deal being one of the hottest on HotUKDeals for Mother’s 2016 with a vote of 451º. Marks and Spencer have offered a similar deal this year with consumers able to get a Mother’s Day Beauty Box worth £80 with a £30 Beauty spend, although this now seems to be sold out online.
Retailers selling homeware:
According to consumers using HotUKDeals, retailers selling homeware offer good deals around Mother’s Day and provide inspiration for gifts. In 2015, Le Creuset offered a ‘Tea for One’ Set for £10 instead of £28 just in time for Mother’s Day as well as a Café Delice Set, which included two mugs and trays, that was on offer for £15 with free postage and packaging (was £44). These deals were voted as hot by the members of HotUKDeals with deal heat of 388º and 387º respectively.
Last year, Argos had a deal on for a Heart of House cream cookbook and two tier cake stand for £6.29 (was £14.99) with free click and collect available. This deal was voted hot for Mother’s Day 2016 with deal heat of 248º awarded by the members of HotUKDeals. Another hot deal available in 2016 from Argos, for Mother’s Day, was for a Heart of House Rosalind 5 Piece textile set, which included a cotton apron, oven gloves and three tea towels, which was selling for £5.99 instead of £11.24. This deal was voted 276º hot. This year, members of HotUKDeals have spotted that Argos are selling the Heart of House 5 Piece Textiles Sets, including the heart set, which is selling for £4.99 instead of £7.49.
