Kérastase has launched a smart hairbrush that listens for breaking hair, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

The luxury hair brand owned by L’Oreal, unveiled the world’s first smart hairbrush at CES 2017, in partnership with Nokia’s Withings digital health unit.
The brush features advanced sensors along with patent-pending signal analysis algorithms to score the quality of hair.
The $189 Kerastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings will be available to consumers later this year.
The hairbrush is developed in collaboration with L’Oreal’s Research and Innovation Technology Incubator.
It features advanced sensors and product design from Nokia’s Withings digital-health unit combined with patent-pending signal-analysis algorithms from L’Oreal to score the quality of hair and monitor the effects of various hair-care routines.
An accompanying mobile app gives tips on how to brush hair and customized hair product recommendations.
The device contains a microphone, gyroscope and accelerometer among other sensors. It also vibrates if you brush too hard.
“You’d be surprised by how many women around the world are concerned about hair breakage,” Guive Balooch, global vice president of L’Oreals’ research and innovation technology incubator told the BBC.
“One of the biggest challenges when brushing your hair is making sure you don’t brush too hard and break the fibres. That can lead to damage of hair that doesn’t look good for consumers.”
The brush is one of a handful of new beauty gadgets that have been announced at this year’s CES tech show in Las Vegas.
