Following our research into the eastward expansion of the global search engine brands, I headed to Poland last month to get a snapshot of how the market had moved on since the arrival of Google, Ebay and Orange. The use of mobile is spiralling and the cost of broadband plummeting, web addresses saturate offline advertising, and as with all the accession countries the economic transition is clear everywhere. Among the under thirties internet use has become a core part of their media diet and office access to online is routine. From there it was on to Spain where the internet is more deeply entrenched into working lives: no surprise that everyone checking into my hotel was clutching printouts of web maps and emailed travel coupons.
