Gmail was mistaken as an elobrate April Fool’s joke when it launched on 1st April 2004. But Google’s webmail service went on to become one of the most widely used and pioneering communications tools in the world. The mark the occasion, Google has posted an infographic on the Gmail blog which depicts all of the changes since launched as an invite-only service back in the mid-noughties.


In 2007 Gmail become one of the first email providers to offer free IMAP for all devices. This meant that Gmail users could access the service from literally anywhere. Open sign ups for the service were also opened up that very year. In April last year Gmail storage was increased to 10GB per user.
