UK adults aged over 55 are beginning to close the gap on their younger counterparts in terms of web use, according to new research from the IAB.


The report looks at how UK adults aged 55+ are using devices including smartphones and tablets to access the internet and what their top activities are.
Key findings include:
-55% of UK adults aged 55+ go online (EU 55+ average: 36%)
54% of UK adults aged 55+ access the internet via a computer/laptop (EU 35%), 13% via mobiles (EU 5%) and 7% via tablets (EU 3%)
– 64% of UK adults aged 55+ visit news sites when using the internet (EU 77%) and 44% watch TV online (EU 34%)
– 61% of UK adults aged 55+ say they are able to book holidays/make travel arrangements more easily (EU 45%)
– 48% of UK adults aged 55+ own an internet enabled mobile (EU 58%)
