Yandex said that integrating images into contextual ads increases their click-through rates and reduces cost-per-click prices – so advertisers can attract more clients to their sites.
The firm said website owners can opt out of showing images in the ads via their dashboard controls.
Advertisements with images can be placed on popular Yandex services including Yandex.Maps, Yandex.Weather and Yandex.Fotki, while sites in the Yandex Advertising Network are set to join the program on March 28.
