Google is shutting down Google+ Photos to make way for its new standalone Google Photos app that went live just a few months ago in late May.

The search giant will begin shutting down the older photos service starting August 1, first on Android, with the web and iOS options following soon after.
A prompt inside the Google+ Photos Android app is already suggesting users download the newer software and Google assures users that all their pictures and videos will be saved on the new cloud storage service.
Google is offering a tool that’ll transition Google+ Photos users over to Google Photos; you can find it on your Google+ account photos page.
Even if users miss the deadline, Google says photos will still be available by way of a ‘Google Takeout’ service.
Google+ Photos was often seen as confusing through its link to the Google+ social network, so the new standalone app aims to simplfy the process, offering unlimited free storage for most standard sized photos.
