Instagram has launched its third standalone app, Boomerang, letting users create one second looping videos on their mobiles.

Introducing Boomerang from Instagram from Instagram on Vimeo.

The app loops together 5 burst photos, playing them back and then immediately reversing the sequence for a “boomerang” effect.
The app automatically saves the 1-second GIFs as a video on a users’ camera roll where they can then share it directly to Instagram of Facebook.
The app is now available to download for both iOS and Android. The technology is fairly similar to Apple’s recently-announced Live Photos feature for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and Googles ‘Creation’ feature (previously known as Auto awesome) on Google photos.
The new apps join Layouts and Hyperlapse among Instagram’s standalone apps for framing multiple pictures within one Instagram and shooting fast-motion hyperlapse footage.
