In this video interview with the Financial Times, WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorrell provides insights into how the ad giant invested on digital channels during 2012. Speaking to the FT, the WPP boss gave his thoughts on growth in online advertising.

He said: “Our investment in Google this year will be over $2bn versus $1.6bn last year, so it’s showing considerable growth. With Facebook, spending last year was $200m and I doubt whether it will get to $400m, which is what [was] budgeted. So it is growing, but not as rapidly as Google and the reason is simple – Google has got its feet planted in multi-sectors whereas Facebook is still really purely a social network and hasn’t developed the mobile answer that you were referring to.”
Asked about the shareholder rebellion over his pay package in June, he said: “There will be a discussion within the board as to what the appropriate level is. There’ll be a discussion with me as whether I’m prepared to accept that or not. If we are hobbled in terms of what we can do, from an incentive point of view, then we will be uncompetitive.”
