On 20 January, the day of the presidential inauguration, there were 58,071 posts using the hashtag #obama or #barackobama, compared to 36,928 posts using the hashtag #trump.
Likes on posts including Obama hashtags numbered 1,749,162 while likes on on posts including the Trump hashtag numbered 823,892.
Just as US national opinion polls suggest Trump begins his Presidency with record levels of unpopularity, Iconosquare’s data paints a picture of a President who, while a prolific tweeter, has a lot to learn when it comes to the world’s foremost visual social network.
However, President Trump is still faring better than Obama in the long term: total posts on the #trump hashtag number 3,432,481, while posts on the #obama hashtag number 2,696,106, despite the fact that Obama has been on Instagram for much longer.
