Twitter has added a new Storify-style feature that lets users create custom timelines around topics, hashtags or key words that they find interesting
Users can now create custom timelines based on topics, hashtags and more from Tweetdeck. The topics could include hashtags, phrases, event names and key words.
It means that people who want to see tweets about a specific television show, sporting event, or breaking news story, can see relevant tweets quickly and easily.
The option to create custom timelines in Tweetdeck is rolling out slowly, so not everyone will have it straight away.
The new platform has already been used to complement the live component of US reality talent show, The Voice see example below):
It is also being used by political groups and news organisations for Q&A sessions between journalists and readers on current affairs topics.
This is apparently in an effort to educate people about the new capabilities of custom timelines and to see how people are using them.
Twitter’s Brian Ellin said that the custom timelines are “entirely new”.
He added: “You name it, and choose the tweets you want to add to it. This means that when the conversation around an event or topic takes off on Twitter, you have the opportunity to create a timeline that surfaces what you believe to be the most noteworthy, relevant Tweets.”
Every timeline will have its own permalink page, making it easy to share and embed, both on Twitter and other websites.
The timelines will all be public, making it easy for others to follow along in real time as you add more tweets.
