The spoof Twitter account, has a global following of more than 1.1million fans who can now see their favourite characters brought to life as part of Yahoo’s burgeoning comedy slate.
The six-part series, entitled Yes Ma’am, is devised and written by the secret creator of the social media phenomenon and will launch on Yahoo on Friday 15th November, with an alternative Christmas special scheduled to go live on 25th December to coincide with the Queen’s Christmas speech.
The main female characters, including the Queen, Mrs Middleton and the Duchess of Cornwall will be voiced by Kate Robbins, who also played the Queen in Spitting Image. Lewis Macleod provides the voices for many of the lead male characters including Prince William and Prince Harry, George Osborne, Nick Clegg, Boris Johnson and Her Majesty’s faithful bookie, Mr Stubbs, with Steve Hope Wynne voicing ‘Call me Dave’ Cameron.
Yes Ma’am was commissioned by Yahoo and the series is produced by the digital agency Sweetweets, with animation by Cutlass Productions. A new three minute episode will go live Fridays at Gin O’Clock (that’s 5pm to those not in the know). Episode themes will include ‘Prince William is Left Holding the Baby’, ‘A Day at the Races’, ‘Prince Harry’s Search and Rescue Mission’ and ‘Her Majesty’s Christmas Message’.
Kate Robbins said, “Spitting Image was a defining show which captured the key moments of it time. I didn’t hesitate to say “Yes Ma’am”! It’s a brilliant concept and I’m looking forward to bringing it to life in this exciting new animation series.”
Dan Watt-Smith, head of video, Yahoo adds “Usually we see characters from TV shows beating a path to Twitter, but we’re trying an alternative approach, creating an online video series for the Queen’s dedicated followers and subjects. Each episode will not only give us a topical angle to promote, but will have long-term appeal, much like her Majesty.”
Sweetweets said, “We believe it is the ideal time to launch a satirical animation series and we’re thrilled to be working again with the @Queen_UK, to bring her now legendary humour to life on Yahoo screen.”
