Since the mobile boom of the 90s through to the high tech world of smartphones today, mobile has grown at a phenomenal pace. This infographic from mobile network specialist CommScope takes a fun and informative look at the evolution of the mobile network over time, from the first 1G network all the way through to the new 4G networks that the majority of operators are in the process of rolling out in the UK at the moment.

It also looks at and provides interesting visual descriptions of some interesting facts such as:
• Generational growth – Did you know that the pace of generation data growth in the days of 1G was akin the size of a grasshopper? With the advent of 4G, this pace has risen to the equivalent size of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai
• The current amount of data passed over the world’s mobile networks expected to pass more than one Exabyte per month for the first time this year. By 2016 this will rise to 10.8 Exabytes each month. As a reminder one Exabyte is the equivalent of downloading the entire Star Wars 130 million times!
• The network is key to smartphone users expectations: Did you know 19% of smartphone users expect and a strong network performance compared to 16% who list value for money from the network provider as their key expectation?
