Busy, on-the-go jobseekers are going mobile, driving a 48% increase in the number of job searches from mobile devices, according to new research.

New research from totaljobs.com has revealed that 34 per cent of visits to its website now come from people using their smartphone or tablet – up from 23 per cent in October 2012.
It’s not just searching that’s grown – the number of people completing their application has increased by a staggering 68 per cent, driven by the Google Drive compatibility introduced by totaljobs.com earlier this year.
The new technology allows jobseekers to upload their CVs on the go and comes as a result of increased demand for greater mobile functionality. Google estimates that 50 per cent of recruitment related searches will be conducted from a mobile device by the third quarter of 2014.
The research has found that multichannel isn’t just for the High Street. Jobseekers are conducting searches from their mobile devices and sending the potential application to themselves to complete on a desktop. The two most popular mobile devices for searching on-the-go are the iPhone (40%) and the iPad (25%).
In response to the findings, director at totaljobs.com, John Salt, comments: “The continued evolution of mobile technology is driving the use of mobile devices as part of a jobseeker’s recruitment search. We book holidays and buy Christmas presents online, now people are also finding their next jobs.”
He continues: “Using mobile for job hunting is only going to grow in the years to come. It’s an exciting, life-changing technology; there’s a reason billions of people use mobiles every day to do life admin whilst out and about. At totaljobs.com we encourage people to get mobile and find that next job!”
