Twitter is considering allowing its posts to stretch beyond 140 characters, according to a news report.

Re/Code cites unnamed sources that interim CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey is spearheading a project code-named “140 Plus,” which is looking at different ways users can extend its signature 140-character limit.
The report also indicates that Twitter might rethink how it measures “140 characters,” by excluding things like URLs or usernames from the official count.
Twitter has struggled with flattening growth and is still in the midst of a search for a new CEO.
Other reports have speculated that Twitter will allow features making it easier to “tweetstorm,” or send multiple numbered tweets as a timeline-filling mini-essay.
If Twitter implements this change, it will have a huge impact on marketers using the service to connect to consumers. Readers will see longer form content crop up almost immediately. For marketers, this means that they will have to spend more time writing the body of a tweet.
A Twitter spokesperson declined to comment.
Twitter most recently reported having 316m monthly active users – about one-fifth of Facebook’s user count – and it is looking for ways to increase that number, though it has had a great deal of success with advertising and monetisation of its existing user base.
