Twitter is testing a new tool that lets users download their account’s entire archive of tweets. Currently the option to download is only available to “a small percentage” of users but it follows Twitter CEO, Dick Costolo’s, promise earlier in 2012 that users would be able to obtain a file of their own archive.

If the trial is successful, the feature will be rolled out across the micro-blogging platform.
“We’re working on a tool to let users export all of their tweets,” said Costolo at a meeting with The New York Times . “You’ll be able to download a file of them.”
According to The Next Web users can check whether they have early access to the tool by scrolling down the Settings page and looking for the “Your Twitter Archive” option.
Once requested, a download link for a zip file is emailed to the address affiliated with the witter account.
The archive in its current incarnation includes CSV and JSON files as well as all tweets in an HTML format which displays similarly to Twitter’s browser experience but divides tweets by month.
