Most people favoured watching the debate via the host network’s website with 210,000 people logging in via Sky.com.
In addition, nearly 67,000 status updates contained one of the four key words: ‘debate’, ‘Brown’, ‘Cameron’ and ‘Clegg’ – providing a snapshot of the huge election conversation currently taking place on Facebook.
Richard Allan, Director of European Policy, Facebook said: “There’s no question that the TV debates have been pivotal in this year’s election campaign. However, it’s social media tools like Facebook Live Stream that enable us to be a nation of instant critics by sharing our thoughts and opinion’s online, giving a voice back to the voters.”
Online interest in the UK election gathers pace ahead of the BBC’s last leaders’ debate on the economy. Facebook’s Democracy UK page now has over 113,000 fans, making it larger than any political party.
