Italy has significantly lowed “digital divide” over the past year and a half, – the number of citizens not connected to the broadband network has fallen from 7.8 million to 5 million. According to the Minister of Economic Development, Paolo Romani, in addition, the digital divide is distributed fairly evenly throughout the country and does not split the North and the South. The minister, during a presentation of Vodafone Italia’s mobile broadband project “100 Towns”, out of a total of 22 million lines in Italy, 12.5 are connected to broadband, adding that these are figures from a year ago. He added that there are 15.8 million smart phones in use in Italy.
