Another video allegedly showing a working model of the forthcoming iPhone5 has surfaced, ahead of its official launch expected next week. The video was posted on YouTube this week by an anonymous user. If proved to be genuine, the hands-on video shows a handset that is longer than the iPhone 4S to accommodate a larger screen – thought to be 4 inches, up from the current model’s 3.5-inch display.
The phone is shown to be the same width as the current version and also a bit thinner.
The new technology that makes the smartphone’s screen thinner by integrating touch sensors into the LCD, eliminating the need for a separate touch-screen layer.
The user is unable to get past the ‘connect to iTunes’ messages on the screen, suggesting that while they may have the handset, they may not have a cable – or are concerning about Apple tracking them should they connect it to a PC to activate it.
The video also shows the difference between old and new iPhone dock connectors.
The front-facing camera has moved to the middle at the top of the handset in this supposed prototype, adding further fuel to speculation that the phone will come with an NFC chip, enabling users to make mobile payments.
The narrator of the video notes that this is why they are unable to charge or use the phone. Whilst the person can turn the handset on, it merely brings up the Apple logo and prompts him to input the new connector.
There was a public outcry when it was revealed that the next iPhone would get a new docking port connector.
The newer, slimline port means that thousands of current Apple accessories will need a potentially clunky adapter to work with the ‘iPhone 5’ – or their devices will become unusable.
