Joost has reportedly put its UK operations into liquidation, as the online video service failed to lure web users away from rivals such as market leader YouTube. The FT reports that Joost UK was put into liquidation earlier this month. Netherlands-based Joost was created by Kazaa and Skype founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström in 2007. The liquidator said the company has “failed to sustain a significant share of the internet video industry and was unable to address this effectively through a re-positioning of its services.” Zennstrom and Friis are now launching a new music subscription service, called Rdio, with plans to launch online and on mobile devices by early next year.
