The Swedish firm has optimised the music streaming service for the Apple tablet, with new features including full-screen mode and AirPlay integration.
“We’ve spent a bunch of time building this application. The iPad is a unique device, and we wanted to build a unique application for it,” said Spotify’s chief product officer Gustav Söderström.
Spotify for iPad features high-resolution graphics tailored for third-generation iPads. A refined touch navigation system will make it easier for users to browse the firm’s catalogue of around 18 million songs.
The iPad is the first iOS device to introduce gapless playback and crossfade to the service, allowing users to set a time interval between tracks, and get more out of music recorded specifically for these playback types.
Social features include personalised recommendations, playlists trending among friends and people nearby, and a streamlined inbox grouped by users for easy searching.
Features include:
• Retina graphics for iPad – dazzling display, razor sharp images, richer colours
• Even easier to browse and explore Spotify’s entire 18 million* song catalogue
• New ‘Now Playing’ full-screen view with high-definition cover art
• Search for playlists, users and music – all from the same view
• Check out what’s hot and find trending playlists & songs amongst your friends
• Inbox grouped by user for easy searching
• Gapless playback and crossfade
• AirPlay integration
Non-subscribers can sign up to a 30-day Spotify Premium free trial to try the app here.
UK singer-songwriter/producer Labrinth has pledged his support to the Spotify iPad app, praising its visuals and music sharing functionality.
“My iPad’s always with me on the road so being able to access whatever music I’m feeling right at that moment – either classic or fresh tracks – and then share those with my fans is a big deal,” he said.
“As an artist, I love the way my music is presented so slickly. Artwork is really important to me, and in Spotify’s iPad app it’s like it’s popping off the screen.”
