The Economist has partnered with AdGent Digital, launching a new feature on its site allowing readers to tweet comments in real time to a live debate. The customised Tweetology widget also allows The Economist journalists, for the first time ever, to moderate Tweets before posting them directly onto the site thereby ensuring the best and relevant tweets are added to the debate.
Share functionality within the widget allows its propagation to social network pages, including Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Yahoo! Buzz, raising awareness and aiding traffic. After each event AdGent Digital will capture the best tweets and The Economist will republish them on Economist.com.
The Economist’s Tweetology widget will go live for the first time at 4pm on Tuesday 1 February during the course of a live debate being hosted by Robert Guest, the business editor of the Economist which can be found here.
The widget will be used as part of an online debate hosted by Robert Guest, the business editor of the Economist, called “Who are the global elite” that will see a group of world-class economists debating issues around the rapid emergence of a single global elite whose decisions and opinions affect the whole world.
The Economist will hold 12 ‘Tweetbacks’ throughout this year. They have been created by The Economist in support of their Ideas Arena: Global Leadership events, and are a set of one hour online debates based around the theme of Global Leadership.
Chris Humphrey, General Manager (International) at Adgent Digital said: “The Economist has great resonance with a high-end opinion-former audience and is a truly recognisable global media brand. We’re delighted to enter this partnership as Tweetology complements their other online activities and will deliver relevant, moderated and interesting Tweets from their audience to help further inform their debates.”
