The report, from telecoms firm Ericsson highlights a 65% growth in mobile data traffic between Q1 2013 and Q1 2014, with the rising number of Smartphone subscriptions (1.9 Billion in 2013 and reaching 5.9 Billion in 2019) playing a crucial role.
Similarly the mobile traffic per active subscription figure in 2013 was 650MB (MegaBytes) per month, which will reach 2.5GB (GigaBytes) come 2019. As ever one of the big drivers will be demand for online video content.
Meanwhile the new generation of 4G mobile services are currently being rolled out a furious pace across both the United Kingdom and Europe, although despite this Ericsson’s report suggests that uptake of 4G will reach just 30% (rising to 50% in Western Europe) due to the dominance of well-developed 3G networks.
