Supermarket chain Aldi has unveiled its own budget tablet for under £80, as it follows the lead of other retailers including Tesco, Asda and Argos.
The discount supermarket will begin selling the 7-inch Medion Lifetab E7316 from this Sunday for £79.99, but stocks are limited.
Aldi’s tablet will be at the lower end of the market, just like the Tesco Hudl and Argos’s MyTablet, featuring just 8GB of storage and a relatively low screen resolution of 1024×600. The battery life will also only be four hours.
The Lifetab is 11m thick, weighs 301g and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean processor on a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU. It has front and rear facing cameras, which both offer low 0.3MP and 2MP resolutions respectively.
In October Argos launched the MyTablet for £100, undercutting Tesco’s Hudl device by £20.
While Aldi’s Lifetab offers 8GB of storage, which can be expanded through the microSD slot, the Hudl has 16GB and claims to offer 9.5 hours of battery life.
The Lifetab supports Google Play and also comes with a selection of pre-installed apps including Kaspersky Tablet Security.
Aldi’s tablet marks another move in the budget tablet market, with its price a full £20 lower than Argos’s MyTablet and £40 less than the Tesco Hudl.
